Web page SEO and on page optimisation services begin at keyword positioning for website writers

As website writers, after we have done our keyword research - whether for core services/products or for wider content like blog posts - it’s important that we position these keywords appropriately on the page in question (PIQ) for web page SEO.

It’s important to place the keywords in appropriate places on a page - by this we mean in title and header (H1/H2/H3) tags and then a mention won’t hurt of the same keyword in the paragraph of text succeeding the title/header tags - as can be seen on this page - it tends to be a regular part of our on page optimisation services.

It’s important that two keywords aren’t being used in title and header tags on two different indexed pages - this is going to lead to what is known as cannibalisation issues. Keyword cannibalisation is when you have two indexed pages both targeting the same keyword and Google (for example) will have to choose which of the two respective pages it will choose to show up when a user searches for that keyword.

Keyword stuffing is also not nice. Due to it’s unnatural structure, it’s not nice to read but also it can end up harming a website’s rankings rather than helping it as Google can and will apply over-optimisation penalties to the website doing the stuffing.

Other search engines - like Amazon - however, view keyword stuffing positively and allow it.

It really does come down to the search engine and their individual preferences in how they rank material.

Where content creation meets website page SEO considerations?

There are a few things to consider when thinking about the body of written content itself for website page SEO. Firstly, we are against all forms of plagiarism and we advocate in almost all cases quality over quantity - so making sure you’re writing your content from a place of originality is helpful.

We advise that planning out content before writing it works for us and we prefer to define the hierarchy and flow of information before even beginning writing - what does this mean? PLAN YOUR WORK BEFORE WRITING!

It’s not a bad idea to also look at the keywords that you’re covering to be able to confirm that you’re not writing exactly the same things that someone else has covered on those keywords in relevant search engines.

We can also imagine that people want to consume at least a little information on the keyword they have typed in - so keeping a page above 200 words isn’t the worst idea.

On page and technical SEO overlaps at several points

Although we will go into more depth on the technical SEO services page, there are several things that are worth a mention within the overlap of on page and technical SEO.

Site architecture must be considered in all cases. How deep is the webpage from the landing page? We advise 3 or less clicks deep. How long is the URL slugs of all pages in question (PIQs)? We try to keep it reasonable, if it takes up the whole URL text bar on a desktop computer; it’s probably too long. Are we making sure keywords are being used in the URL slug? Ideally we want to use the title keyword

We then have security considerations - are Secure Sockets Layer (or SSL for short) being used across the whole website? It may be rough sailing with Google and GSC if not. Your audience likely wants to feel that security best practices are in place when browsing your website.

We won’t get into it too deep here, as it’s a whole topic within itself, but site speed can be the defining metric between winning or losing out to competition where rankings are concerned according to Google and other sources.

Visual content should also be utilised on-page, just remember to have appropriate alt tags and filenames associated with those images.

Meta descriptions are also important - not so much for ranking but for click through rates CTRs of the audience who search for those particular keywords on your page. The more concise and to-the-point that your meta descriptions are, the more likely a searcher will click on your page on the search engine results pages (SERPs).

Linking is necessary; both internal linking on your website between different pages on your site - helping Google’s crawlers to find all webpages to index and also to give your audience context and access to internal resources to support the content on your webpages.

Mobile and on page SEO optimisation

When discussing mobile on page SEO optimisation all of the above is relevant with a few extra additions.

Appropriate button spacing is a must, if tap targets are too close together it could harm your SERP rankings - your website ideally should be easy to navigate, if tap targets are too close together user mistakes may cause frustration.

Clear fonts become a much bigger factor on mobile devices because of the smaller sizes of user interfaces when compared to many desktop interfaces and physical sizes of monitors.

Last but certainly not least, a non-responsive webpage or website can be tedious to read, navigate and engage with on a mobile device. Ideally the webpages should look like they are made for mobile devices when accessed by a mobile device. Having a desktop view on a mobile device isn’t ideal, let’s avoid it where possible.

SEO on page analysis

So, perhaps you’ve read the above and thought - there are a few bits that I can touch up on, but I’m not sure about a few elements of my pages/site… That’s fine, that’s where our SEO on page analysis services come in handy.

We appreciate it may seem easier to implement the above points into a brand new webpage; but sometimes a lot of work may have been done on an already existing website and it’s a shame to let work go to waste in most cases.

pomegranate are happy to take a look at all webpages/websites and give an analysis, this is a little more of an involved process than a technical audit, as we will likely be doing this manually page by page, so it can take a little time - however, it’s best to know where you’re at; so that you know what needs to be done to tighten up your on-page optimisation.

On page Off page SEO… What's the difference?

The (new) age old question - on page off page SEO… What’s the difference?

At it’s core, it can be broken down into what they both say on the tin; on page SEO is making efforts on page in order to optimise your website and webpages for better indexing and ranking on search engines. And off page SEO is making efforts off page in order to support better indexing and ranking on search engines.

For on page we look at Google search console, content, keyword placement and technical efforts to help improve indexing and SERP rankings for a website.

For off page we look at improving our backlink profile, anchor text, citations and really pushing our mission and content externally to gain the right kind of links to our site and hopefully gain a larger audience to improve indexing and SERP rankings for a website.

On-page SEO packages

For our on-page SEO packages we focus on the amount of tasks that will be completed and the time that it takes to complete those tasks. As we mentioned before our efforts will be split across keyword positioning, indexing, content-tailoring and technical SEO.

For a small business with a 10-page website, the amount of on-page optimisation tasks that need to be completed will not be as large as a 70-page website for a business who is targeting several English speaking territories.

Therefore to keep everything fair, we charge an hourly rate; the amount of tasks therefore will dictate the total (or ongoing monthly) fee

We do however offer a 10% discount to charity-based projects in our pursuit to help make the world a better place, generally.

To find out which tasks can be completed, to help you on your journey to better search engine rankings, submit a request for a on-page SEO review today.
