Off page search engine optimisation begins at backlink analysis
In all cases we believe that off page search engine optimisation begins at (current) backlink analysis.
It’s important that the links to our website are appropriate as they are taken into consideration when Google decides where to rank us for the keywords that we are targeting.
If two websites have an equal amount of sites (unique domains) linking to their sites and they are targeting the exact same keywords; the site with the more relevant links will win out, if the sites linking are equally as busy as each other. Our job here is to find not-so-relevant links to our site and disavow them through Google Search Console (GSC).
We also ideally do not want all of our anchor text (the text associated with the link on the referrers site) to look the same or be stuffed full of keywords, this could possible incur us a few ‘over-optimisation penalties’ by Google or other search engines. Natural language is your friend here!
Elements to a good off page optimisation strategy?
There are a few elements that are needed to support a good off page optimisation strategy. At a high level these can be broken down into good link building, content marketing and social media strategies; we will explore the latter two, first.
Content marketing can be explored fully on our content marketing services page, however there are a few relevant pieces that we use for off page SEO purposes: video creation and upload, e-book creation, podcasting and social media. The idea being that we can take pieces of content which are on-page and share them to places that are off-page.
Social media can at times be your friend or your enemy depending on your approach. We like to keep it simple - social medias are a place where we can share existing content, off-page. It is a place where we can engage with our audience (via responding to reviews or customer queries) and specifically with forums, we can share our knowledge, build brand awareness and also meet others who are active in our niche (and not necessarily competitors).
Off page link building service
Before we get into the thick of link building, it’s important to understand why it is relevant to our SEO efforts.
“The Google search engine has two important features that help it produce high precision results. First, it makes use of the link structure of the Web to calculate a quality ranking for each web page. This ranking is called PageRank and is described in detail in [Page 98]. Second, Google utilizes link to improve search results.” - Sergey Brin and Lawrence Page, 1998 (http://infolab.stanford.edu/~backrub/google.html)
What we take from the above, is that with all other things kept the same, the quality and number of links to a site can be considered the determining factor between which website will rank ahead of another; enter the subject of link building.
There are several approaches to link building, but at the core, they can be split into low-quality link building and high-quality link building.
Low-quality link building is the process of obtaining links back to your site (and pages in question - PIQs) through links that we, ourselves, can place. These links will usually be placed among the following: directory submissions, classified ads and social bookmarking - social media ‘nofollow’ links may also fall under this category.
High-quality link building is the process of obtaining links back to your site (and PIQs) through links that other editors (or webmasters) may put on their site which is relevant to your niche. This includes but is not limited to the following: article submissions, broken linkfinding (and replacing with your content), guest posting, the skyscraper technique, converting brand mentions to backlinks and finally help a reporter out (HARO).
We will go into more detail on the above on our designated link building services page - the point however is that a good link building strategy has to be part of a good off-page strategy, with many of the above elements included.
On page SEO and off page SEO - what’s the difference?
Fundamentally, both do what they say on the tin where on page SEO and off page SEO are concerned.
On page SEO is the process of doing things ‘on page’ to better optimise your site for search engine results page (SERP) rankings - such as keyword placement and technically optimising your site for desktops and mobiles to improve load times on PIQs.
Off page SEO is the process of doing thing ‘off page’ to better optimise your site for SERP rankings - such as link building, listing in business directories and content marketing through social media platforms.
It can be confusing at first; hopefully just like us - you’ll eventually get it.
Off page SEO packages
Our off page SEO packages all begin with a free analysis of your current backlink profile and competitors. This is so that we can firstly rid you of links that are harming your off-page SEO efforts and secondly so that we know what we need to aim for on a local/national level in order for you to start ranking for your targeted keywords.
In the pursuit of being fair, we charge all of our services at our flat hourly rate. Our paid off-page services can be broken down into the following:
Disavowing of undesirable backlinks
Google business profile and relevant business directory citations (national, local and niche specific)
Niche contributor link building
Media platform link building
Cross-platform content marketing
Social media management
Some or all of the above may be necessary as part of an off-page SEO strategy - which services are needed will become clear during a competitor analysis.
We are happy to extend a 10% discount to charity-based projects in our efforts to do some good.
